Brushed Motors (SL)

Brushed DC Motor Type SL

Compact design

Heinzmann motors are built flat. It is this extremely flat, or pancake design that offers excellent mounting options for which other motors are unsuited.

The permanent magnets being arranged around the shaft generate an axial field through the disc rotor and at the same time a large air gap area which in turn is proportional to the available torque. This yields an extremely powerful motor for the most slender of mounting arrangements.

Dynamic

Due to the non-ferrous thin disc armature the HEINZMANN Disc Motor has a very low inertial torque. Since the windings are manufactured as air coils they have a very small electrical time constant due to their small inductance and their low internal resistance. Besides, the non-ferrous disc motors are entirely free of cogging torques. Thus, dynamic drives are created that are well suited for easy and simple control.

Durable

HEINZMANN Disc Motors prove that also a motor equipped with brushes can have a very long service-life. The low inductance of the armature and a sophisticated geometrical arrangement of the permanent magnets will ensure that practically no brush sparks occur at the collector during commutation. In combination with top quality carbon brushes this leads to a long serviceable life which, depending on the application, provides many years of operation before brush replacement is required. As an example, our brushed disc motors integrated into bicycle hubs can achieve a distance of over 40,000 km before brush replacement is required.

Powerful

The possibilities of HEINZMANN Disc Motors mean you don’t need to compromise between high speed and high torques. By modifications of the armature windings and of the magnet arrangement the motor can be adjusted to the required drive parameters. Using appropriate cooling surfaces it is possible to obtain large operating limits far above the rated torque-speed range. This means that even temporary blocking at full load will not cause the motor to overheat. Thus, large and powerful operating ranges can be realised with a compact device.

Versatile

HEINZMANN Disc Motors are available in many other versions besides the ones presented here. These versions represent a selection of possibilities as a source of inspiration. Customer specific solutions are our strong points. For example, in case you want a special shaft or a second shaft end or attachments like shaft encoders, brakes, gears, special flanges or even integration of a Disc Motor into your application, do not hesitate to contact us. Our dedicated teams will take care of your specific commercial, design and development requirements. We believe that cooperation leads to optimised customer solutions.

Robust

Originally, HEINZMANN developed and optimised its disc Motors for application in its own products. The above mentioned characteristics have been optimised for use in our own proprietary electro-mechanical systems. The motors have been used for many years in control devices for medium and large diesel and gas engines and for steam, gas and water turbines under the most demanding environmental conditions. Elsewhere, industrial applications are to be found in tooling machines, production machinery, printing machines, robotics, linear drives, laboratory technology and material handling systems. A large number of these motors are also used in wheel hub motors for battery-supported light electric vehicles.
